California Elders Benefit from Pensions

WSJJuly 26, 2012 - Pension reform in California threatens millions of elders who could be facing poverty without their pension checks, reports The California Majority Report. NIRS executive director Diane Oakley was quote; "There is a steep price to pay when older Americans can no longer be self-sufficient in retirement - either as increased public assistance costs to taxpayers or backsliding to a time with elder Americans living in poverty."

Poverty Rates Rising for Older Americans Without DB Plans

Meanwhile, public sector employees are less confident that they will be able to retire or afford health care in retirement.
