It’s no surprise that the current economic environment is taking its toll on Americans hoping to retire in the next few years, but new data from the National Institute on Retirement Security (NIRS) is revealing staggering new realities.

Commissioned by NIRS, Washington, D.C.-based market research company Matthew Greenwald and Associates conducted a nationwide telephone interview of more than 800 Americans over the age of 25 regarding their sentiment on retirement, as well as actions the new Congress and Administration could take. The data was compiled into a report entitled Pensions and Retirement Security: A Roadmap for Policy Makers.
