Women, even more than men, need the retirement security that only defined benefit plans provide, according to an issue brief published by the National Institute on Retirement Security.  Because women generally earn less and live longer than men, having a secure pension is necessary to prevent women from outliving their assets, NIRS said in the brief, Shattering the Retirement Glass Ceiling: Women Need a Three-Legged Stool.
