Former Social Security Commissioner Martin O’Malley and Congressman Thomas Suozzi to Headline National Institute on Retirement Security Annual Retirement Policy Conference on March 3 in Washington, D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C., February 17, 2026 – The National Institute on Retirement Security (NIRS) today announces that former Social Security Administration Commissioner and Governor of Maryland Martin O’Malley and U.S. Representative Thomas Suozzi (NY-3) will deliver keynote addresses at its 17th Annual Retirement Policy Conference, Securing Retirement for Future Generations, scheduled for March 2–3, 2026, in Washington, D.C.
Former Commissioner O’Malley will deliver the opening keynote, focusing on the urgent need for bipartisan solutions to ensure Social Security remains a dependable foundation of economic security. Congressman Suozzi will present the closing keynote, outlining federal policy approaches to address long-term care costs and strengthen retirement security for future generations.
The conference will convene policymakers, economists, journalists, and retirement experts to examine the most pressing challenges facing America’s retirement system at a time of heightened economic uncertainty and affordability pressures. Panel discussions will explore:
- Affordability, Housing, and Inflation – How rising costs are squeezing workers’ ability to save for retirement and reshaping financial planning decisions
- Public Pension Funding – Considerations for plans approaching full funding and strategies to maintain long-term sustainability
- Generational Retirement Challenges – How Gen X is navigating a retirement system that looks markedly different from prior generations
The conference will begin with an opening reception on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 5:30 PM and continue on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, from 8:00 AM – 3:15 PM ET at the Park Hyatt Washington, 1201 24th Street N.W., Washington, D.C.
