NIRS celebrated five years as a non profit organization. With an ever-growing membership base, NIRS has published over 25 research products, testified in front of federal and state lawmakers, and been cited in hundreds of news articles.

NIRS kicked off the year with its third annual policy conference, Retirement Economics: The Impact of Retirement Plans for Americans and the Economy , held  in Washington, DC.

Notable 2012 reports and issue briefs included Pensionomics 2012: Measuring the Economic Impact of DB Pension Expenditures and The Pension Factor 2013: The Role of Pensions in Reducing Elder Economic Hardship.
