September 7, 2011 — Amid discussions to reform public pensions, Rhode Island lawmakers met on Tuesday, September 6 for a pension tutorial from pension experts, including NIRS executive director Diane Oakley.

NIRS executive director Diane Oakley addressed the state lawmakers, cautioning them about an abrupt switch to defined-contribution plan. “If investment losses cannot be recouped by retirement age, they may delay plans or retire with much less income,” said Oakley.
